Communications strong at this year's CeBIT

While much of this year's CeBIT Australia exhibition and conference, held last month in Sydney, focused on enterprise business solutions, there were a number of products of particular interest to engineers. Communications comprised a considerable part of the show, with vendors exhibiting products to assist with building wireless hotspots, extending the reach of networks using microwave repeaters and connecting remote sites using 3G (wireless internet) and satellite technologies. It seems that 3G has come of age, with numerous vendors offering 3G routers which offer the possibility of sharing a wireless internet connection and even providing remote machine telemetry.
