I have had a fascinating journey of more than 80 years from the days of society's exhortation to go forth and multiply to Bruce Dinham's letter ("Transition to no growth economy," May). Having seenrnit all, I wholeheartedly agree with Mr Dinham's no-growth plea for the sake of humanity's future.rnIn my early training engineering was solely for the purpose of constructing thingsrnand making them work. But I remember my first move into the world of economic and social thinking when I was appalled to find that, after the Cyclone Tracy disaster in Darwin, there was a spike in the Australian GDP because of the rebuilding efforts.
