Engineers are pivotal to the development of our country's infrastructure. We have a role in society to bring infrastructure to life. And perhaps for this reason, it is even more obvious to engineers how much Australia needs to have a greater sense of urgency in developing infrastructure. Infrastructure investment delivers huge benefits for our country - it increases quality of life, creates jobs during construction and operation, and it improves productivity and competitiveness. Yet Australia's productivity remains a critical issue and we endure bottlenecks that affect movement of both goods and people. Our cities are congested; our transfer of freight between road, rail, air and sea is inefficient; and our interstate links show room for improvement.
