There are a number of macroeconomic trends impacting the AEC industry that create large volumes of construction demand. This includes global rapid urbanization, a growing scarcity of resources such as materials and labor, and the global push for sustainable design and development. Added to this, the world is flattening, becoming more interconnected. Local and regional businesses are looking to or relying on the global infrastructure to compete in the next era. Building in this environment demands that the industry change—becomes more efficient and connected more capably. We must do things differently if the industry is to meet these demands.
