Bim Beyond Design

BIM is more than just a design phase practice. BIM is an integrated process built on coordinated, reliable information about a project from design through construction and into operations. The value of intelligent 3D modeling goes well beyond its role in the design phase of a project. We're seeing increasing interest and use of BIM in both construction and civil engineering projects. So why has BIM become critical to construction professionals? In the past year, contractors have taken the lead in driving a more intelligent BIM process that goes well beyond design intent. The solutions that are rapidly changing the construction process are also those that connect design and construction, and provide contractors with the ability to make informed decisions about cost and constructability long before work begins in the field. In fact, civil engineers are using these same principles to lay out waterways, wastewater facilities, roads and bridges.
