The trend toward sustainable construction has become increasingly mainstream. Once primarily the province of public agencies and a few high-profile corporate owners, green building has invaded the developer market. Furthermore, the number of local governments mandating sustainable construction has expanded rapidly, forcing contractors to sit up and take notice. ENR's second Top Green Contractors list has attempted top quantify the green building movement. Last year, ENR ranked the Top 50 contractors based on their revenue from projects registered with or certified by third-party rating groups under objective environmental or sustainable development standards.
