The sustainable-design market is growing by leaps and bounds. However, for all the progress that is being made in that field there also seems to be as much hype. In an at-tempt to quantify the green mar-ket and identify major designers in that market, ENR for the first time is publishing a Top Green Design Firms list (see p. 120). The ENR Top 100 Green Design Firms are ranked based on the firms' 2007 revenue from projects that are registered with and follow green-design standards set by national third-party sustainable-design organizations. "We decided to go with a registration requirement for counting revenue because anyone can claim that everything they do is green," says Senior Editor Gary J. Tulacz, who compiled the list. Assisting him were Virgilio Mendoza, ENR's survey database coordinator, and Theola King, data-processing assistant who also handles data for the ENR Sourcebooks (see p. 11-86).
