Californaia city and county of San Francisco has awarded a construction-management contract to Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. for the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center Rebuild Program. The project entails replacing the existing hospital building with a facility that complies with the state's seismic safety requirements. The new 448,000-sq-ft, base-isolated hospital will be nine stories (two below ground), with 284 beds. It will be located on the front lawn of the current hospital campus, at Portrero Ave. and 22 St. The project is valued at $887 million and is scheduled for completion in January 2015.
