Boston's Costs Increase 3.2% Over 2012

Construction costs in Boston this month were up 3.2% from a year ago, nearly a full percentage point higher than the 2.3% increase for the 20-city national average, according to the ENR Construction Cost Index for September. ENR's Building Cost Index for the city was up 2.5% for the year, compared to the 1.7% increase for the national average. The Boston cost indexes received a boost from a 4.7% hike in lumber prices and an 8% increase in cement prices. Nationwide, lumber price rose 6.0% and cement prices 2.1%.
