Plywood Prices Rebound in January but Remain Weak

Plywood prices rebounded 0.6% in January after falling 0.9% in December, according to ENR's 20-city average price for 5/8-in. plywood. Despite the monthly uptick, plywood prices have fallen 0.8% below a year ago. Plywood mill prices tracked by Random Lengths, Eugene, Ore., also are falling. Random Lengths' composite price index for structural panels, including both plywood and OSB panels, fell 3% in November from the previous month. The latest composite panel price of $370 per thousand sq ft is 15% below November 2012's level. ENR's price for particleboard is down 3.3% for the year.
