The Opal Sands Resort, a 15-story, 230-room hotel, currently under construction in Clearwater Beach, Fla., with its curved panoramic beachfront views has become a proving ground for today's latest field layout solutions. "There are no square walls anywhere in the structure," emphasizes Bill Pullman, president of Associated Interior Systems, the interior/exterior finishing contractor for the project. "Using conventional methods, the layout and wall placement would have been extraordinarily labor intensive." Instead, Pullman and his team tested the new Rapid Positioning System (RPT) from Trimble with its visible green laser dot. The highly accurate positioning and layout tool is a purpose-built solution designed to automate as much of the layout process as possible.
