Built in 1924, the South Branch Road Bridge, which runs over a tributary of the Raritan River near Branchburg, N. J., was on the state list of structurally deficient and obsolete bridges. Looking to change that and make driving safer, the bridge was recently replaced. "The purpose of this project is to restore the structural capacity of the bridge by complete replacement of the existing structure with a single-span, multi-stringer steel beam superstructure with reinforced concrete deck, supported on concrete abutments," according to Somerset County.
