The growing population of the Reading, Pa., area facilitated an upgrade to the wastewater treatment plant on Fritz Island, Pa. Originally built in the late 1800s, the plant had been moved and upgraded several times. However, in order to keep up with the growing needs of the 14 municipalities it serves, the existing 20.5 MGD facility became the center of a large construction project.Wagman Heavy Civil was hired to design and install earth retention systems and micropile foundations required at several new process support buildings, which included a solids-handling building, blower building, RAS/WAS pump station and primary clarifier odor-control building.
