Mass Timber, Pro and Con

Lisa Podesto, Lendlease's mass timber specialist, argued in a viewpoint that members of the International Building Code should approve a proposed change that would create a new Type Ⅳ construction category for mass timber. The change will help fill the need for more efficient, less labor-intensive construction techniques. While widely accepted in Europe, designers and builders in the U.S. have struggled to take full advantage of mass timber because of current limitations in prescriptive codes. An opponent of the change responded to Podesto's argument.
