摘要

In this paper, a novel concept of permanent magnet synchronous generators with automatic turn-to-turn short-circuit fault-tolerance capability is proposed and investigated. In the proposed concept, a generator employs a back-winding structure, and all its coils are wound in the same direction. This special structure brings the characteristics of high inductances and L approximate to M, which enable the generator to achieve fault-tolerant operating automatically in a turn-to-turn short-circuit fault condition without the need for control devices or control algorithms. Its principle is theoretically analyzed. A power density comparison between two new generators and a conventional generator is presented. The performance of the fault-tolerance of the proposed concept is analyzed by means of both simulated and experimental results.
