The European Commission has published a lengthy set of proposalsrnaimed at accelerating telecoms reform in the 28 member states of thernEuropean Union. Encompassing far ranging reforms addressing keyrnissues such as net neutrality, spectrum allocation, consumer rightsrnand wholesale network access, among other things, the proposalsrnare aimed at making Europe's digital economy, leaner, more productivernand consumer-friendly. BMI broadly welcomes reforms thatrnseek to harmonise regulatory tools and place the consumer at thernforefront of technological change. However, we also acknowledgernthat – as do many players and industry associations – the proposalsrnwill have a significant impact on sectoral profits and investments.rnThe reforms would leave the sector greatly changed and a swathernof casualties in their wake.
