摘要

An ultra-small athermal arrayed-waveguide grating module with 100 GHz-spacing and 40 channels has been demonstrated by using 2.5%-△ silica-based waveguides. The module size is only 30 × 10 × 5 mm with a low insertion loss of 2.0-2.9 dB.rnSilica-based arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) can be realised as compact low-loss wavelength multi/demultiplexers irrespective of their channel number. With the recent rapid extension of the use of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems from long haul to metropolitan networks, compact and temperature insensitive AWG modules are urgently required in terms of reducing the cost of metro DWDM systems.
