Santa Clara, Calif. - Engineer Shiv Sikand was so upset with Synchronicity Inc.'s commercial data management tool that he wrote his own open-source software to do the job. While Sikand touts the superiority of his software, representatives of Synchronicity say it falls far short of the company's EDA-centric tools. Sikand developed the cdsp4 software, which links Cadence Design Systems Inc. tools to Perforce Software Inc.'s data management system, several years ago when he worked at Silicon Graphics Inc. He subsequently decided to offer the interface on an open-source basis.
