摘要

"HE WAS HARDLY more than five feet, four inches, but carried himself with great dignity. His head was exactly the shape of an egg...His moustache was very stiff and military." With this description Agatha Christie introduced Hercule Poirot in October 1920 in her first novel, "The Mysterious Affair at Styles". In the century since, Poirot's mannerisms and catch-phrases have become familiar around the world; back then, though, the retired Belgian policeman had fled his war-torn homeland and found himself quartered in a sleepy English village. Reunited by chance with his friend Captain Hastings, he is embroiled in the murder of a wealthy, elderly and recently remarried lady.
