1. Among recent disappointing indicators, the labor market report for September was arguably the worst. Payrolls shrank by 263,000, a larger decline than in August. In addition, average weekly hours and average hourly earnings were weak, which combined with the continued declines in employment mean there will be little if any growth in wage income. Even so, the payroll decline in September was much milder than the declines in 2009Q1.
