The year 2021 was full of challenges with the second wave of Covid-19 and the Omicron variant hampering economic activity, but it was also the year of recovery as Drewry Freight Rate Index rose by 9.7% and 19.1% year on year on long-haul and short-haul routes respectively in December 2021. The Vegoil Freight Rate Index also increased by 20.9% due to the recovery in vegoils and CPP markets in 2021.
