The exhibition "El Lissitzky - llya and Emilia Kabakov. Utopia and Reality" at the Kunsthaus Graz (until 11.5.2014) establishes an unprecedented dialogue between three Russian artists of different generations: llya and Emilia Kabakov and the forerunner of the Russian avant-garde, El Lissitzky. Two contiguous generations, both striving for renewal and the realisation of Communist visions: one via the construction of striking iconography and the other via its subsequent deconstruction. Over 40 original El Lissitzky works produced between 1919 and 1930 are shown as impressive reconstructions of his models. Arranged in semi-circles with llya and Emilia Kabakov's installations and painted works, they illustrate two opposite visions of the world.
