Manipolate il mondo

In our era of alternative facts, relative truths and fragmented narratives, how much influence can the work of an artist have? What manipulative potential does art have today? This question is asked at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, where the exhibition "Manipulate the World" (until 21.1.2018) forms the last instalment of a three-year project based on the work of the innovative and eclectic artist OEyvind Fahlstròm (1928-1976), painter, poet,film directorjournalist, art critic, creator of happenings and radio composer. Using whichever expressive medium he found most suitable, he poked at social, politicai and economic issues with the aim of convincing people to not passively accept authorìtarianism. The show's title is from an article he wrote in 1964, used here as an invite to 28 contemporary artists from Sweden and abroad to interpret his ideas on manipulation and theatricality. The show is divided into three areas and includes tour pieces by Fahlstròm.%In un mondo nel quale tutto è frammentario e interpretabile e le verità sono relative, quanto può incidere l'operato di un artista? È la domanda di fondo che muove la mostra "Manipulate the world-Connecting Òyvind Fahlstroem" al Moderna Museet di Stoccolma (dal 26.10.2017 al 21.1.2018), ultima tappa di un progetto avviato tre anni fa sul lavoro di questo artista innovativo e versatile - è stato pittore, poeta, regista, giornalista e critico d'arte, ideatore di happening e compositore per radio. Indagava temi sociali, politici ed economici grazie ai linguaggi artistici che riteneva più congeniali, con l'intento di spingere a non accettare passivamente ogni forma di autoritarismo. Il titolo riprende l'invito espresso da Fahlstròm in un testo del 1964, che viene rivolto a un gruppo di artisti contemporanei che si sono ispirati alle sue idee sulla manipolazione e la teatralità. Lambito d'azione della mostra viene definito da quattro opere di Fahlstròm, distribuite in tre zone del museo, in dialogo con 28 lavori di artisti svedesi e internazionali.
