Wide distribution of the nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) in populations of the gypsy moth, the key pest in forests of Eurasia and North America and its role as a population dynamics factor of the insect was demonstrated by many researchers [2, 3, 6, 11-13]. Several viral preparations created on the basis of this virus are used for protecting forests from the gypsy moth [4].
