Postoperative spinal epidural hematoma in a biportal endoscopic spine surgery

Minimalinvasivesurgical options have manymerits, [1,2] however, there werealso limitations oftheir indications dueto limited viewand working angle. As faras I know, the biportalendoscopicspinesurgery (BESS) is one ofthe most versatiletools thatcan beapplied to various spinal diseasesalmostsameasan open conventionalspinesurgery (CSS). [3–7] But thereare many concerns on its safety. [8,9] Postoperativeepidural hematoma(POSEH) is one ofthecomplications thatareconsidered developingmore often inBESS thanCSS. InCSS theincidenceand risk factors ofPOSEHhave been reported inconsistently. Besides, thereare moreissues inBESS. We presumed that intra-operative bleeding control is difficult dueto various reasons while performingBESS. Wecompared theclinicaland morphometric differencein terms ofPOSEHand also investigated therisk factors ofPOSEHinBESS group independently.
