Clinical outcomes and prognostic factors for prolonged mechanical ventilation in patients with acute stroke and brain trauma

A retrospective observational study recently explored the clinical outcomes and prognostic factors of prolonged me- chanical ventilation (PMV) in patients with acute stroke and traumatic brain injury. 1 In this study involving 103 partici- pants, the authors found that the decreased Respiratory Care Center (RCC) Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score was associated with weaning failure and increased mortality, suggesting that RCC GCS score could be used to refine the risk stratification of patients receiving PMV treatment. However, the following concerns need to be pointed out.
