The impact of urban freight transport and mobility on transport externalities in the SPMR

This work investigates urban freight transport and mobility in the S?o Paulo Metropolitan Region (SPMR) and its impact on transportation externalities. We considered externalities as congestion, gas emissions and accidents/incidents. We conducted a statistical analysis based on multiple data sources: cargo origins-destinations, urban mobility, national demographic data and S?o Paulo’s accidents/incidents and congestion databases. Retailers and wholesalers corresponded to more than 70% of the surveyed companies within the SPMR, and were responsible for more than 60% of the daily trips. Further statistical evidence provides insights for managers building public policies.
