To be competitive, small and midsized enterprises (SMEs) need to focus on a targeted implementation of digital technologies. However, selecting the wrong technology can be a risk, especially for SMEs, as this will lead to higher costs and increasing the implementation time of the optimal solution. Currently, most of the digitalization approaches are not detailed enough so that SMEs can quickly adapt them. Therefore, the paper presents an approach to empower SMEs to select a suitable digital technology by mapping available digital technologies with known key performance indicators (KPI) of a manufacturing system to identify the positive and negative impacts.
