Indiais often highlighted for its disproportionatespending on health care.[1] Overall, Indialacksadequate health careinfrastructureand facilities.[2] Even today,access to health carefacilitiesare urban-centric, whilea majority of our population lives in ruralareas. Discrepancy in resourcedistribution deprives therural population leaving their health care needs unattended.[3] There have been efforts to overcometheseand ensurethatthoseliving in relatively inaccessibleareas should beableto receivetimely care. Butevidenceshows thataccess to health careremains thelowestin the most vulnerable, rural population. It has been noted that thereis notmuch varianceamongst ruraland urban populations when itcomes tominor illnesses, but for major illnesses, ruralregions remain suboptimally cared for dueto non-availability oftreatmentand diagnosticfacilities in thevicinity.
