摘要

During the past 2 years, back-to-back epidemics of Ebolaand Zika have stunned even seasoned public healthofficials with unprecedented levels of illness and death thathave been associated with these events. Both viruses, previouslythought to cause only limited outbreaks, surprisedthe people of the world with a seemingly sudden ability tospread across multiple countries and cause illness in new, previously unthinkable ways. As we struggle to understandboth the scale and impact of the Zika and Ebola crises, weare forced to once again ask: how did this happen and whatcan we do to prevent the next one?
