Background: Standard Precautions (SPs) are applied to all patients at all times to prevent the healthcare-associated transmission of infectious agents among patients and healthcare personnel, regardless of their known or presumed infectious status. Currently, SPs were adopted strictly as infection control guidelines in Hong Kong hospitals. Nurses, who provide 24-hour direct and close patient care, should be firstly evaluated their degree of compliance with SPs. However, there is a paucity of research investigating this phenomenon locally.
