Background: Candida glabrata has emerged as an important opportunistic pathogen in past two decades. As C. glabrata infection is associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality, prompt and appropriate antifungal therapy is essential. Since C. glabrata commonly exhibits resistance to fluconazole and antifungal susceptibility testing can take some time, rapid species level identification is important for prompt initiation of appropriate therapy. Therefore tests like GLABRATA RTT and dipstick test are developed for rapid identification of C.
