Integration of Situated Learning and Context Awareness System for Learning Basic Chinese

Chinese has become the world’s strongest language,and that has also set off a learning trend. It is critical to knowhow to improve teaching methods and strategies to effectivelyhelp non-native speakers to overcome the language barrier.With the Internet’s and e-Learning’s popularity, learningtechnologies have led both learning activities and theenvironment into a multi-dimensional world. Recently a newtrend has emerged, called context-aware technology, fordeveloping a ubiquitous learning environment with featuresthat emphasize real life learning situations and problem solvingpractices. This study has integrated situated learning strategiesand context awareness technology to develop a basic Chineselanguage learning system for exchange students at a largeuniversity in northern Taiwan. The pilot test results show thatthese students are highly satisfied with the system and theirlearning attitude was also positive, while using this system.
