Discoticliquidcrystalsareemergingasnovelnanomaterialsusefulinmanydeviceapplications.Recentlytheirhybridizationwithvariouszero-,one-andtwo-dimensionalmetallicandsemiconductingnanoparticleshasbeenrealizedtoalterandimprovetheirthermal,supramolecularandelectronicproperties.Inthisarticle,wehaveoverviewedtheworkcarriedoutinourlaboratoriesonthedispersionofvariousmetallic,semiconductingandcarbonnanoparticlesindiscoticliquidcrystals.Firstabriefintroductionofself-organizingsupramolecularliquidcrystallinematerialsispresentedwithanemphasisondiscoticliquidcrystals.Thisisfollowedbythedescriptionofvariousdiscoticliquidcrystal-nanoparticlehybridsystems.Anumberofdiscoticliquidcrystals,functionalizednanoparticlesandtheirnanocompositeswerepreparedandstudiedbyspectroscopicandanalyticaltools.Thedispersionofsuchfunctionalizednanomaterialsincolumnarmatrixenhancesthephysicalpropertiessuchas,conductivity,photoconductivity,absorbance,etc.,significantlywithoutdisturbingthesupramolecularproperties...
