A single slope conventional solar still and a stepped solarstill with seven trays (100 mm width × 10 mm depth) with a basinarea of 0.7 m2 (1 m length x 0.7 m width) were studiedexperimentally. Several experiments with constant feed water depthof 10 mm in both the solar stills were carried out in the month ofMarch 2018 at Jaipur (India) to compare the performance of the twostills. The experimental results show that daily distillate output ofsolar still majorly depends on the depth of water layer. Thetemperature of vapour and basin water in stepped solar still werehigher by 7 ?C and 6 ?C than that of conventional solar still. Thedaily yield distillate was 3850 ml/m2 and 2625 ml/m2 and for steppedsolar still and conventional solar still, respectively. Thus the steppedsolar still gives a daily distillate output of 31.81% higher than that bya conventional solar still.
