In this paper a novel definition and understanding of colourcorrelogram has been proposed. The proposed colourcorrelogram generalizes the spatial graylevel dependencymatrix (SGLDM) to the case of colour textures. Thisgeneralization is based on perceptual colour differencemeasure expressed in the language of the CIELab colourspace components. Application of the colour differenceinstead of arbitrary colour indices or colour componentsthemselves allows to avoid colour-shuffling palletizationand introduction of multidimensional objects, respectively;the proposed perceptual colour correlogram is asingle 2D matrix. At the same time, a simple relation ofthe proposed colour correlogram to the spatial grayleveldependency matrix for graylevel textures is retained.Based on this relation it will be shown that there exists avector of statistical features built from the perceptual colourcorrelogram which can be used to describe texturesin perceptual terms. These statistical features and theirabovementioned perceptual interpretation generalizeHaralick concepts derived for the SGLDM.
