Review on Korean Medicine Clinic at Polyclinic During Pyeong Chang 2018 Olympic Winter Games

Objectives: This study was designed to analyze the usage of medical service support in Korean Medicine Clinic at thepolyclinic during PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games period for furthermore study.Methods: We recorded the daily occurrence of injuries and illnesses through the electrical medical record used both ofKorean Medicine Clinic arranged in the polyclinic at PyeongChang and Gangneung Athletes’ Village during the period ofPyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.Results: In total, 691 medical cases were reported from Korean Medicine Clinic established inside the polyclinics inPyeongChang and Gangneung Athletes’ Village. Respectively number of athletes treated were 53 (17%), number of staffstreated from International Federation, International Olympic Committee and National Olympic Committee were 58 (19%),number of workforce treated were 130 (42%) and number of volunteer treated were 66 (22%). Nationality of Ukraine(n Z 13) was the most and nationality of United States (n Z 12) was the 2nd to the most among foreign people visited theclinic. Respectively the ratio of injury among the patient visited the clinic was 76% (n Z 526), and the illness was 24%(n Z 165). The frequency of treatment method used in the clinic was acupuncture, chuna manipulation, and taping in order.The frequency in location of body part treated was body trunk (n Z 215), lower limbs (n Z 108), upper limbs (n Z 107) andhead & neck (n Z 96) in order. The frequency on type of body parts treated was muscle (n Z 378), ligament (n Z 79), andtendon (n Z 41) in order.Conclusions: The clinic using acupuncture established inside the polyclinic during the sports events hosted by the International Olympic Committee was the first time ever in PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. So the presented dataconstitute the basis for future analysis and study. Korean Medicine is likely to be effective in terms of the medical assistancefor the international sports level of athletes, however further study is needed.
