摘要

The plant Humulus lupulus is mostly known as raw material of thebrewing industry. Hop cones, rich in polyphenolic compounds and acylphloroglucides, are widely used to preserve beer and to give it a characteristicaroma and flavor. Hop cones have been long used also for medicinal purposes. Inparticular, hop preparations were mainly recommended for the treatment ofsleeping disorders. The aim of our present study was to highlight the use ofstandard methods of German Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia for evaluating thequality of the hop cones over a long period of time. The bitter acids wereinvestigated by thin layer chromatography (TLC). The used TLC method couldhighlight also quality differences due by natural phenomena.
