A survey of Japanese university students' computer literacy skills

Despite most Japanese university students hav- ing access to computers and the internet, there are antecdotal reports of these students hav- ing very low levels of computer and internet lit- eracy. In order to gather empirical evidence to either confirm or refute these reports, a com- puter literacy questionnaire was administered to 103 Japanese university students at three universities in the first month of the 2011 aca- demic year. This article reports on the respon- dents' perceived levels of computer and inter- net literacy, software use, skills, and knowledge.
