Anewmodelforreliabilitygrowthforamulti-stagesystemisintroduced;thesystemmaybeeitherhardwareorsoftware,oracombinationthereof.Theusageofeachstageofthesystemduringamissionismodeledasanon-time-homogenousPoissonprocess(NHPP).Duringsystemdesign,manufacture,installation,usageanddevelopment,failure-causingdesigndefects(DDs)mayinadvertentlybeintroducedintoeachstageofthesystem.Thesystemundergoesasequenceoftestmissionsbeforeitisfielded.DuringeachtestmissionDDsmay,withprobabilitylessthanone,causefailureandthusrevealthemselves.TheseDDsarethenidentifiedandremoved(byredesignorre-programming)attheendofthetestmission,butwithprobabilitylessthanone.ExpressionsandanapproximationaregivenfortheprobabilitynoDDsareactivatedduringafieldmissionafteraspecifiednumberoftest-fix-testmissions.
