摘要

This study addresses issues related to professional qualification and human factors at work. The objective of the article was to analyze the use of mental test in the 1940s and 1950s as a way of assessing students' specific skills in the “National Technical School” (ETN) from the perspective of Work Psychology, with a qualitative method of documentary analysis exploratory-descriptive. The results showed that the vestibular exams in the ETN, starting in 1942, began to include the compulsory mental test, because if the candidate did not have the aptitude for technical education, he could not be enrolled. However, in spite of the emphasis on this mental test, the management of this teaching process was truncated and inconsistent, although, in the context of Taylorism, a discourse prevailed in favor of the relevance of an objective and scientific evaluation of the skills of the workers.
