IntroductionDuring final exams week, fewer than 20% of students meet minimum sleep recommendations (7 hours) and 10% sleep optimally (8-9 hours). Yet, students might need sleep the most while studying for final exams. For example, laboratory experiments show that sleep deprivation impairs the frontoparietal attentional network, reduces memory consolidation, and diminishes emotional control. We considered a motivational solution: Will students sleep better during finals week if they can earn extra credit points for doing so?
