Objectives: Transformation experienced in medicaleducation and the unplanned increase in the number ofmedical faculties has necessitated addressing the issue ofmedical education on a national level. As a result, at themeeting of the Council of Medical Deans, it was decidedthat a new national framework for undergraduatemedical education should be created. This study aimsto evaluate the design/change process and outcomesof the National Core Curriculum-2014 (NCC-2014) forUndergraduate Medical Education.Design: Qualitative study, content analysisSetting: All medical faculties from TurkeySubjects: An expert working group was formed with theparticipation of 20 academic members from 16 medicalfaculties and the NCC-2014 was developed by usingevaluation meetings and workshops. The design/changeprocess and outcomes of the NCC-2014 were evaluatedby national consultations. Data obtained throughnational consultations were analyzed thematically bythree researchers independently.Intervention: NoneOutcomes and Results: Considering bio-psychosocial/cultural perspective, outcome-based and task-basededucation, the NCC-2014 was developed in theframework of four fundamental components: TheAim of Medical Education and The Frame of NationalCompetencies” with the lists of the “Symptoms/Situations”, “Core Diseases/Clinical Problems” and“Basic Medical Practices”. The frame-program wasevaluated positively by the stakeholders due to its“providing a perspective aimed at learning”, “makingcontribution to the educational standardization of thefaculties”, “being functional” and “being a guiding lightfor practitioners”.Conclusion: Although the NCC-2014 is the first steptowards the standardization of medical education, furtherplanning aimed at internalizing the started change by allrelevant institutions should be done.
