The management ethics and the deontology of medical practice

摘要

Starting from an ideal distinction between the cardinal value of medical practice - the life and health of the pacient as a unique person - and the central concern of medical management - the efficiency of medical attendance - the author claims that there is an axiological conflict between managerial ethics and medical deontology, as well as some potential convergences, rather as decisional analogies, on the ground of several compatible principles. The author analyses briefly some of the most typical ethical dilemmas of doctors and managers both in the developed countries and in our national health system, concluding that, for the time being, the ethics of medical management is not, and could not yet be, a matter of common practice, but a heroic attitude of a few people, both excellent doctors and moral persons.
