Seventropicaltreeleaveswereanalysedforproximateprinciples,cellwallfractionsonorganicmatterbasis,proteincontentofNDFandADF,.non-fibrecarbohydrates,calciumandphosphorus,totalphenolics,totaltannins,condensedtanninsandB3slowlyrumendegradedproteincontent.ThesetreeswereAcaciaauriculiformis(Australianwattle),cashewnut(Anacardiumoccidentale),Gliricidiasepium,jack(Artocarpusheterophyllus),Sesbaniagrandiflora,subabul(Leucaenaleucocephala)andyellowgoldmohurorcopper-podtree(Peltophorumferrugineum).Ourobjectivewastousecertaindiscerningchemicalconstituents(protein,phenolics,ADL,B3)toevaluatethesetreeleavesfortheirpotentialasruminantfeedstuff.nbsp;ThedifferencesbetweenNDFandNDFom(Table2)reflectedtheashcontentfromfibreinNDFanalysis,whichrangesfrom0.71incaseofsubabulto2.93%foracacialeaves.SimilarlyashfromfibreinADFanalysisrangedbetween1.47incaseofjackandsesbanialeavesand2.27%incashewnutleaves.NFCwascalculatedintwowaysas100minusNDF,protein,lipidsandashinafeedstuffwithorwithoutNDFcorrectedforprotein.TheNFCvaluesderivedwithNDFcorrectedforproteinareappropriate.nbsp;Totalphenolicsofacacia,cashewnut,gliricidia,jack,sesbania,subabulandyellowgoldmohur,respectively,were13.4,20.3,5.6,15.6,9.4,11.3and12.5%.Sesbania,subabulandgliricidiawerekeptinbestcategoryinviewoftheirhigherprotein,lowerligninandphenolics,whileacacia,jackandyellowgoldmohurinthenextbestcategory.Cashewnutleaveswerekeptinthelastcategoryinviewofrelativelylowerproteinandhigherligninandphenolics,whichwereresponsibleforthelownutritivevalueofthemingoats.However,consideringthebeneficialeffectofcondensedtanninsinprotectingproteinfromrumendegradation,cashewnutorotherleavesmaybeincorporatedatappropriatelevelintheruminantdiet.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;
