The patellofemoral pain syndrome is a painful disorder of the knee joint that results in atrophy and a force reduction of Vastus medialis obliquus (VMO) muscle. The main symptoms are a diffuse pain in the anterior region of the knee producing functional limitations to individuals. Objectives: The aim of this work was to verify if exist significant differences in the myoelectric activity of VMO, Vastus lateralis obliquus (VLO), and Vastus lateralis longus (VLL) muscles, in both healthy individuals and patients with patellofemoral pain during the step exercise with a 45?° inclination and at stand-and-seat exercise. Methods: The sample was composed by 24 women, being 13 of control group ( years) and 11 of patellofemoral pain patients group ( years). Surface electrodes were used to acquire the myoelectric signals while the individuals executed the proposed exercises, with three trials each one. The values of the ratios VMO/VLO and VMO/VLL were statistically evaluated by t-Student test. Results: The ratios have not presented significant differences among the groups and the exercises. The VMO was more activated than VLO and VLL on average. Conclusions: The two evaluated exercises can be indicated for the patellofemoral pain syndrome treatment.Key-words: Electromyography, Quadriceps Muscle, Biomechanics./div
