The aim of this case study was to evaluate theclinical symptoms in patients with basal gangliacalciications and compare the neuroimagingmethods used in conirming this state.The clinical status and performed transcranial sonographyof basal ganglia structures in patientswith brain calciications found by computed braintomography was examined. In one of these patientsDaTSCAN was performed. A large spectrumof different symptoms was found. Transcranialsonography of basal ganglia showed the hyperechogenicityof nucleus lenticularis in eight outof 10 patients. DaTSCAN, which was performedto one patient with parkinsonian signs and thehyperechogenicity of substantia nigra found bytranscranial sonography, was normal. Transcranialsonography is a newly neuroimaging methodwhich can contribute to diagnosing basal gangliacalciications in patients with different neurologicalsigns. Computed tomography of brain remainsthe most adequate technique in visualisingcalciications
