Elbow Arthritis and Total Elbow Replacement

Arthritic involvement of the elbow is relatively uncommon.However, because of the critical role that the elbow plays in hand andupper extremity function arthritis can be functionally disabling. Themost common etiologies of elbow arthritis are primary degenerativearthritis (osteoarthritis), rheumatoid and inflammatory arthritis, andpost traumatic arthritis. Other less common conditions include hemophiliacarthropathy, synovial chondromatosis, and post infectiousarthropathy. Treatment is dependent on the extent of pathologic involvementand predicated on relieving pain and restoring function.
