This article discusses current transformations from nomadism to labor migration andtourism in the local economy in the Moroccan mountain village Ameskar Fogani. Using theconcepts of field, habitus and symbolic capital of Bourdieu's "theory of practice", changes in economic practices are analyzed in relation to changes of (symbolic) meanings andperceptual categories. This perspective sheds light on the close interrelation of economic andcultural aspects of social change.
