A Comparative Multi Criteria Decision Making Analysis of a Classic Deterministic Job-Scheduling Problem

This study presents a comparative analysis to select the mostappropriate job scheduling technique for a single shop manufacturing processusing a classical deterministic job-scheduling problem as a case study. FirstCome First Serve (FCFS), Earliest Due Date First (EDD), Shortest ProcessingTime Goes First (SPT), and Critical Ratio (CR) methods are compared todeterminethe best fitting queuing technique for the case study. The comparativeanalysis is carried out through a Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM)process; where, Equal Weights Method, Decision Maker Weight AssessmentMethod, and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) are employed to account forthe uncertainties that are a part of the decision making process. The effect ofdifferent weight assessment techniques in the MCDM process, and theselection of the scheduling technique is demonstrated through a single shopcase study. This paper addresses the challenges regarding the on time deliveryand provides a comparative MCDM analysis of a classic deterministic jobschedulingproblem.
